The Show Must Go On: Porter delivers remarkable set in Historic U.S. appearance

Unusual Southern California shower fails to put a damper on fans’ excitement

Los Angeles, CA – 17 October 2007 – Playing for the first time ever in the United States, Mexican rock group Porter delivered an outstanding performance Friday night at Al Borde’s Rock and Bliss Fest concert at the Ford Amphitheatre, in spite of a rain storm uncharacteristic of LA, and which threatened to bring to a halt the long anticipated performance at the open air venue. The rain caused a 15-minute delay to Porter’s performance, but it cleared up long enough for them to deliver a 30-minute show, adding more drama to their first US performance.

The Latin alternative rock quintet from Guadalajara demonstrated why they are the hottest act today in Mexico and abroad as they enthralled scores of fans with a captivating set that kept fans wanting more. Led by vocalist Juan Carlos who is known for his effeminate vocals as well as for his onstage persona reminiscent of a young Robert Smith, Porter did not disappoint. Fans danced and sang along as Juan Carlos strutted onstage and cooed the lyrics to “Vaquero Galáctico” and “Host of a Ghost” from their latest album Atemahawke (set to be released in the US later this year), as well as modern day classic “Espiral” from their 2005 EP Donde los ponys pastan.

Almost immediately after the concert, MySpace was bombarded with comments from exuberant fans raving about Porter’s performance. “I can’t wait till they come again,” commented Alex from Los Angeles. Added Julio from Santa Monica, “The rain ruined the night a bit, but it was still worth it. The concert was amazing!”

Al Borde’s Rock and Bliss Fest was opened by local Spanish rock group Curanderos, who performed a set that included “Comunicate” “Respira” and “Perro”, their rendition of Radiohead’s “Creep.” Sussie 4, another major rock group from Guadalajara, was scheduled to be the closing act, but the performance was canceled due to the rain. Plans are underway for Al Borde to secure a make-up performance for Sussie 4 and possibly Porter later this year or next.

The Rock and Bliss Fest is a concert presented by Al Borde that was kicked off this year to commemorate the publication’s ten-year anniversary. Sponsors for the event were Monster Energy Drink, US Marines, Virgin Mega Stores and Bulova.
