Al Borde Announces Latino High School Journalism Day, Set fro Feb. 9

Los Angeles, CA – January 14, 2008 – Al Borde, the premier national music and lifestyle magazine, en español, has announced plans for the first Latino High School Journalism Day to be held at their Norwalk headquarters Saturday February 9 from 2-5:30 PM.   The magazine and online portal has invited the newspaper staffs of 60 high school newspapers (within a 10-mile radius of their offices) to be part of this historic seminar. Over 250 students are expected to participate at Al Borde Lounge.

“We are thrilled to provide a forum that will allow so many students the unique opportunity to meet actual journalists working in Latino media,” stated Martha de la Torre, publisher of Al Borde. “It is not often that our local high school students get to connect with prominent media professionals whom they can relate to, so we hope the students are able to take advantage of the opportunity and come away with valuable knowledge and insights.”

A stellar panel has been assembled to provide the young audience an insight on opportunities in Latino media.  Addressing the youthful journalists will be: 
Mariluz Gonzalez—Public Relations Director, Fonovisa, President Sour Pop Records;
Josh Norek—VP, Business Affairs & Media Relations – Nacional Records; vocalist for Hip Hop Hoodios; co-founder of Latin Alternative Music Conference); Crash—Host, Writer, Producer “The Shift Late Night” and “Chicas Project” MUN2/Telemundo; Marthin Chan—Host “Indie 101” MTVtr3 and guitar player Volumen Cero; Omar “Boris” Ponce—Host & Producer “Galeria Alternativa” Channel 27, LA;  Mark Torres—Host “Travel Tips For Aztlan” KPFK; Lalo Alcaraz—Syndicated Cartoonist “La Cucaracha” and co-host of KPFK/s “Pocho Hour of Power”; Gustavo Arellano Syndicated Columnist “Ask A Mexican”; Janelle Gonzalez—Producer, “Pocho Hour of Power” KPFK. The panel will be advising on how they got their start and best ways to prepare for a career in media.

Attendees will also be treated to live performances by two of the top alternativo bands from the LA area:  Pastilla, who began recording for Aztlan Records in the 90’s while still in their teens, and are now signed to SONY/BMG Records, along with ska-stalwarts La Banda Skalavera, who are soon to release their second CD through MAKZ Records/Verdad Y Justicia.
