Local High Schoolers Get a Unique Opportunity to Connect with Fashion Industry Insiders for a Sneak

Los Angeles, CA –June 26, 2008— Dozens of high school students from the Los Angeles area were transported to Spanish rock lifestyle newspaper AL BORDE’s headquarter facility in Los Angeles to network with an interactive panel of bona fide Fashionistas. The free, private event held on Saturday, June 14 consisted of two live musical performances by local Latin alternative rock acts Torino and Coatl, a fashion show, and a panel discussion with fashion experts.

A distinguished panel lineup that consisted of husband and wife Rock N Roll clothing retailers Gloria Becerra-Tarango and Adrian Tarango of Red Hot Gear, jewelry designer Cynthia Morehouse, and Roseanna Garcia of Latina Fashionista volunteered their Saturday afternoon to share their experiences working in the industry. The students, most of whom came from legendary Garfield High School in East Los Angeles and South Gate High, had plenty of questions for the panel and received valuable tips for advancing in the highly competitive field of fashion.

During the panel question and answer session, Victoria Rivera, a senior at Garfield High school, gave a heart-felt testimonial directed at the panelists. “It means a lot to us that you’ve volunteered your time to be here, offering your assistance,” she said breaking into tears. “We never have opportunities to meet actual professionals who are willing to help us out, thank you so much!”

The Cool Careers For Me Fashion panelists also included Gabriela Hernandez, CEO of Besame Cosmetics Inc. and Lupe Perez, Sr. Production Manager for BEBE. The event also included a live performance by Los Angeles-based R&B/Ghettotech/Electro one-man act Torino, and Metal/Goth/Classic Rock group Coatl. The next event in this series is tentatively scheduled for October.
