Al Borde Will Host a Night of Art and Entertainment in Honor of the Latin American Tradition, El Dí

Los Angeles, CA—October 30, 2006—On Thursday, November 2nd Al Borde, the award-winning Latin Alternative entertainment publication, celebrates its second annual free Día de los Muertos Concert and Arts Festival in East Los Angeles’s El Gallo Plaza, to support local artists and students. More than 600 edgy, bilingual and bi-cultural Hispanic college students, art enthusiasts and young professionals are expected to come together and enjoy an evening of art exhibits and live musical performances.

Los Angeles-based community groups, colleges and universities will build their own “Day of the Dead”-themed altars for the chance to win $500 in cash and prizes. The evening’s art exhibition will be made up of original, two-dimensional artwork submitted by local artists. The winner of the art contest will receive feature editorial coverage in Al Borde as well as a personalized art exhibition at Casita del Pueblo, a retail store and art gallery located in uptown Whittier.

“Al Borde is proud to promote some of the best artistic talent in Los Angeles through our Día de los Muertos Concert and Arts Festival,” said Adriana Hernández-Fernández, Senior Advertising Promotions Manager and organizer of this event. “As a publication that caters to an exclusive niche—LA’s young and alternative readers—we are aware of the vast pools of talent that exist in smaller communities, and which too often go unnoticed. This event is a great way to focus the spotlight on some refreshing talent and open the door for one lucky winner to an artistic career.”

In addition to the art and altar exhibitions, there will be a live musical performance by local ska group La Banda Skalavera. The highlight of the evening will undoubtedly be a surprise acoustic set given by a major act in the Latin Alternative rock music scene. Guests will also enjoy traditional food and beverages that include tamales, pan dulce, café and hot chocolate.

Al Borde is a free bi-weekly publication that reaches young and trend-setting 18-40 year old Hispanics with original content that is focused on Latin Alternative entertainment. With more than 35,000 circulation and 150,000 readers, Al Borde reaches the heavily Hispanic populated areas of Los Angeles and is distributed through key locations nationwide.

Some of the sponsors that will join Al Borde in its unique, cultural event include Washington Mutual, Wells Fargo, Blue Cross, Cingular, El Clasificado and Monster Energy.
