The dead know how to party! Al Borde’s Dia de los Muertos Re-cap!

In a nutshell, Al Borde’s 5th annual Día de los Muertos event was off the hook! Charros, calacas, and muertos rattled their bones at Al Borde’s Dia de los Muertos event where a crowd of close to 900 joined in the fun as a stellar performance by La Santa Cecilia had the house dancing away to the band’s norteñazo, “Chicle”.If you missed it, tap tap. But, no worries. We picked brains from attendees and participants to bring you a recap of what went down, what you missed and who left with whom at Al Borde’s Day of the Dead event! Cheka!
Juan Carlos Gutierrez, Bunbury Concert Tix Winner: The event was great! I loved the fact the there were entire families in attendance as well as adults and the younger generation. I can’t remember the name of the La Santa Cecilia song that got me dancing, but the vibe was totally awesome! Oh, and the free tequila was great as well! I won the tickets to the Enrique Bunbury concert, which was a complete shock since I never win anything! All I had to do was get a sponsor card checked off by all of the sponsors and I won. Super Chido!
Art Martinez for Red Hand Media, Altar Contest Winner: We had the Michael Jackson themed altar, which won the grand prize. Michael Jackson has been the biggest influence of my life. When I found out that he died it really depressed me so I decided to put together a team to work on a Michael Jackson themed altar. It’s my first time attending an Al Borde event and this altar is my introduction to this scene, so winning first prize was pretty f-en rad!
Dolores Arredondo, Vice President Marketing Manager Wells Fargo: We are very excited to have sponsored such a great community event that celebrates art and culture and that continues our traditions with the younger generation. Having the event in East Los Angeles, the Hispanic heart of Los Angeles, only added to the Latino community feel of the event. It was amazing!
John Carlos de Luna, Art Contest Winner: I was truly impressed to see such and event bring out so many families in our community as well as other diverse communities coming out to support the event and the artists. The evening was full of food, family, music, art and unity- and that's always beautiful! It is always great to see companies come out and sponsor events like this that promote our culture, arts and music in positive ways. I felt that the altar artists worked really hard to create those beautiful offerings to our dead. My personal favorite was the altar "Los Artistas" by K.Lovich. I was really moved by the colorful use of light, the beautiful images and all around composition of the altar. I felt truly connected to it and loved the fact that it honored my artist heroes like Jose Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera and of course our patron Santa Artista Frida Khalo. La Santa Cecilia always rocks, its is always a pleasure to see them perform and dance all night to their cool songs! They have a rhythm that you cannot help but dance to all of their songs! I look forward to the Al Borde Día de los Muertos event for 2010 and beyond!!
Isabella Del Villar, attendee: I loved the performance by La Santa Cecilia. I've followed them locally and try to catch most their shows. They had me dancing through the night! I loved, loved, loved the drinks my girlfriends and I had, compliments of El Jimador. We even took a picture at the Wells Fargo booth! I'm usually incognito, but the people seemed super friendly so we gave it a shot. My girlfriends and I met some new people too, very interesting and fun!
