Epicenter ’09: So Cal’s Rock Explosion to feature Tool, Linkin Park, Alice in Chains, Wolfmother, Atreyu…need I say more?!

On the “Bad-Ass Richter scale”, Right Arm Entertainment’s Epicenter '09 is seeking to create a summer rock concert of major magnitude. Featuring various stages and 12 musical acts such as Tool, Alice In Chains, Wolfmother, Atmosphere, Hollywood Undead, Atreyu and Linkin Park in their only North American gig this year, the Pomona Fairplex will reign heavy come  Saturday, August 22nd.

We had the opportunity to touch base with Gary Spivack of Right Arm Entertainment and Alex Varkatzas of Atreyu who, although are very busy getting ready for Saturday’s all-day festival, have taken some time out to pump up the crowd for what they hope will turn into the best annual So Cal summer concert yet.

Gary Spivack: “In order to launch a major rock festival in such a high profile area as Los Angeles, we felt we had to go BIG. Putting together a full scale, multi-stage rock festival is never easy, and getting together some of the top names in metal today is what we dreamed of as far Epicenter ’09. We wanted it to fill the huge void in So Cal for a late summer edgy rock festival. Let’s just say some hair was definitely lost over putting this event together!”
 
Alex Varkatzas: “We’re totally stoked for Epicenter! To be on a bill with Linkin Park, Tool and Alice in Chains is truly beyond an honor. We’re coming from being home chilling and finishing up the record, which we did for most of the summer, but this month the pace has picked up some. We played a radio show in Syracuse, which was bad ass, and then of course there’s Epicenter! After that, we’re heading out on a co-headliner with Hollywood Undead, who is also playing Epicenter along with us and the rest of the bands on the bill.”

GS: “We care about the overall "experience" that a festival can provide.  We want Epicenter to be a life-long memory for the fans; one that they can look back on and one that they will look forward to each and every year.  Like when I attended the US Festival in 1983, it left an impression that stayed with me forever.  If it wasn't for the US Festival, I would NOT be doing what I am doing today. The great thing about putting on Epicenter is providing a festival experience for all of the fans. The bad thing about producing the show is that it’s over before ya’ know it.  At all our shows I make it a point to take a minute to stop whatever crazy festival work thing I’m doing, go out in the crowd to taste, smell and LIVE in the moment.  I have to, but I wish I was able to do it more.”

Alex Varkatzas: "The whole bill is rad but if we weren’t on the bill, then I would definitely go check out Linkin Park, Tool and Alice in Chains. But I have to make mention my love for Hollywood Undead, too."
