Meet the Peeps!
Written by Hilda Gabriela Monday, 12 January 2009 16:00

From every corner of the city, state, country, continent, planet and universe there is and will always be la musique. And in this great city of angels where street lighting is lacking and 24- hour health food joints are zero to none, it’s comforting to know that bands are aplenty and that weekly gigs are just as abundant. Fellow comrades and music seekers, allow me to briefly introduce you to this month’s pick of the crop. From Echo Park/Downey/Los Feliz, I introduce you to Wait. Think. Fast., an indie quartet whose lead singer’s sultry voice has been compared to that of Thom Yorke. From Pomona, California, we have rock band The Disrepair whose guitar riffs and melancholy tunes sonorously transport you to a classic Morrissey concert. And last but not least, representing Covina/ Pomona/ Riverside/ L.A., we have all-girl punk band The Moscow whose eerie style of music sets the mood for scary, foggy nights.

Stilo :: eclectic
Members :: Jacqueline Santillan, Tom King, Apolinar (Polo) Quintero, Matthew Beighley
Sounds like :: “a fleeting glimpse, a soul growing stormy”
AB: Best live gig you've played so far and why?
Jacqueline: Our recent record release show at The Echo. We had trumpeters two-stepping before their part came in, 4 tops style and the incredible Ana Lenchantin on cello.
AB: Why does your band rock?
W.T.F.: Because Polo wears very smart cardigans onstage.
AB: Truth or dare?
Jacqueline: Truth
AB: How many licks does it take to get to the center of your blank?
Jacqueline: Filthy journalist! 71.
Polo: One. I'm easy.
AB: Jack Rabbit, Bullet or Gigi?
Jacqueline: Flux capacitator! (What the?)
Polo: ¿Que? Is Jack Rabbit related to El Conejo Blas?
AB: Favorite alcoholic drinks?
Matt: Ahhh, makers on the rocks, there is no substitute.
Jacqueline: champagne!
Polo: Michelada with a saladito at the bottom.

The Disrepair
Stilo :: indie rock
Members :: Adrian Vega, Daniel Gomez and Hector Chavez.
Sounds like :: Fresh, unique, and inviting with lots of raw energy.
AB: What’s the best live gig you've played so far and why?
TD: The Milano- Fresno, CA. The people we met there were very friendly and hospitable. They asked us to play a second set, which we happily obliged. We felt like we let go completely onstage and the energy was so high and electric.
AB: Why does your band rock?
TD: Because each song equals a pound of flesh from each of us. (perrrr-don!)
AB: Truth or dare?
TD: Truth.
AB: How many licks does it take to get to the center of your blank?
TD: BEHAVE yourself! We’ll never tell! (one?)
AB: Jack Rabbit, Bullet, or Gigi?
TD: No thanks… exit only!
AB: Favorite alcoholic drinks?
TD: Ice cold, frothy Blue Moon w/orange slice and the sweat dripping from the glass. Mmm!

AB: What’s the best live gig you've played so far and why?
TM: Characters Bar in Pomona. Not only was the place packed, but the vibe was also incredibly positive and the crowd was really into our performance. We’re so used to playing outside of Pomona so to finally be able to play in our hometown was fantastic.
AB: Why does your band rock?
TM: We’re a sophisticated, down to earth and friendly all-girl band. No two songs sound alike - we go from dance and upbeat to dark and melodic.
AB: Truth or dare?
TM: Truth:
AB: How many licks does it take to get to the center of your blank?
TM: Tootsie pop? Well we all know the answer to that one...
AB: Jack Rabbit, Bullet, or Gigi?
TM: Right.
AB: Favorite alcoholic drinks?
Amy: Patron margarita on the rocks
Jen: New Castle
Dana: Jack Daniels
Vanessa: Tequila
