Fitter, No Way Jose and Soy Disco put the Latin Alternative flava’ in the Auto Club Speedway

If car racing and beer downing ain’t your thang, then maybe the musical showcase presented by Al Borde.com will get you out to this weekend’s Nascar race. Latin Alternative rockers Fitter, No Way Jose and Soy Disco are booked to perform in the fourth Auto Club Speedway showcase to be presented by Al Borde, which takes place on February 20th and 21st in Fontana. And although Fitter is currently heavily promoting their Through the Green Jungles of Plenty EP, No Way Jose is busily preparing for their 2010 EP release and Soy Disco is putting in studio time, we were able to catch up with them days before their performance and here’s what they had to say about the anticipated adrenaline madness.

Fitter

We’re not too familiar with NASCAR, but it feels great and we’re happy to be playing the showcase. We’ve never played an event like this but we’re preparing for it the same way we do for any other gig, making it a point to make this gig a good one. We’re hoping to see some extreme racing and maybe a crash or two, with no injuries and deaths of course. Personally, we're excited to see the pit crews too.

When we think of NASCAR the first things that come to mind are hillbillies and Budweiser. So having a Latin showcase is very strategic to draw in the Hispanic community considering that the majority of our demographic is Latino. But if NASCAR really wants to see some Latinos in the house, all they need to do is put Juan Gabriel in the driver seat of one of those bad boys and the Latinos will come!

No Way Jose

We’re familiar with NASCAR and are fans of the fast car action. We’re looking forward to the groupies, the exposure and a great crowd. The thing is that our upright bass player is on tour with another band right now, so we have a friend who's filling in and learning our songs as we speak. So we hope it works out.

We’re glad to be part of the Hispanic element of the event because this way, the Hispanic community will be able to relate to the event more through our music. It’s not only all about racing at these events, but entertainment as well. It's an honor for us to represent a part of what the LA music scene is in the Hispanic community and what it has to offer.

Soy Disco

Nascar is huge so we’re looking forward to play the event and to meet new people. Our  music may be new to most of the event attendees but we’re firm believers that music is a universal language and that they’ll be able to feel our vibe.

We’re familiar with playing festivals of this sort but nothing like Nascar. For some reason we keep thinking about the adrenaline, beer and hot chicks that are part of that scene! Even though we play an early show at around 10:00 a.m., we hope to see our friends there since we won’t have another show until April or after we release our album. We’ll be playing new songs from our upcoming album so we hope that people come out to check that out before the album is released. It’s like a sneak peek of what’s to come from Soy Disco.
 

Other event highlights include the opportunity to meet Juan Pablo Montoya and the West coast debut of female racer, Danica Patrick. And to get you into that NASCAR “shake and bake vibe”, check out the video of last year’s Al Borde showcase featuring none other than Monte Negro!
