Radiolites: The not-so New Kids on the Block’s proposal to tear down the house

The new year will undoubtedly bring forth new musical events, collaborations, private concerts, new hybrids of musical genres and, of course, new musical talent. L.A.’s Radiolites may happen to be one of those bands to check out in the next few months.

Although the band was formed in the early days of ‘09 and booked the occasional show within that year, it is with the new calendar year that according to Saul Jimenez, lead singer to the band, that the public will get its full dose of the Radiolites.

But the members of this band are no newbie’s to the music scene. They have all in their own ways and with their own respective bands, been part of the musical movement for numerous years. Saul, for example, fronted rock en español band Tribal, with which he toured California and northern parts of Mexico. Rike took part of All Ends Well, and Ral and JC had their hands in the NU Republic and Andromeda mix.Days before their House of Blues, Sunset gig, which was rescheduled from their December 16th canceled show, and with an experimental alternative rock proposal, Radiolites talks to AlBorde.com about what 2010 has in store for them and about how their new kid on the block status is shy from the raucous that they plan on bringing to the house.

Bring it…
Radiolites comes from the 1940’s. It comes from a group of people that would gather around the radio to listen to music and just jam out together and cause raucous, so we figured it was the perfect name for us since that’s what we intend on doing as well. That’s how we make most of our music-from jam sessions. From the bass, to the drums to all of us just feeding off of one another’s tunes, we all put something on the table and we just go with it. It’s one of the advantages of playing LA’s independent scene. We can play and progress together, as a band and most importantly, play whatever we want.

We know that in this type of genre we need to push hard and that it’s difficult to make a living out of this, especially when you’re up against mainstream genres. But, we’re here. We’re taking our Zoé, The Bravery and Stone Roses influences and making our own voice… and our own raucous.

Turning over a new leaf…

We’ve all been in bands before and have each learned different things from them. This time around, we plan on doing a few things differently in order to establish ourselves in this scene. We’re still using methods like MySpace and word of mouth to get some exposure. But we’re also in the works of taking care of the business aspect of the band and working with people that are helping us with paper work and all that mess. We also plan on putting out our first album. Some of our music can be heard on our MySpace page right now, but there’s still more of us to come.

Globalization
We want to share our rock music with the entire world; and we want to get them all to dance to it. We’re hopeful and confident that that’ll be the case. People are exposed to different types of music all the time. Just look at Coachella! If the music is good, then you can appreciate and enjoy all genres of it. And we’re hoping that Radiolites is one of those bands that people can really enjoy.
