Calle 13: Gringo Latin Funk?!

Ever since they made their debut back in 2005, Calle 13 turned heads their way, and not necessarily just because of their music.  Although they were put under the reggaeton umbrella-ella-ella-eh-eh-eh, they were and still are anything but reggaeton.  Trying to classify Calle 13 in one particular genre is as hard as trying to tell apart Mary-Kate from Ashley Olsen.  With every album they step further away from reggaeton, yet they are still considered to be reggaeton, so it’s a bit strange to find such music among Ivy Queen, Don Omar, Wisin & Yandel and all those reggaetoneros.  Calle 13 doesn’t seem to mind the labeling and instead of dissing it, they embrace it and take pride into being part of the “género urbano”.

Los De Atrás Vienen Conmigo

October 21 marked the release of Calle 13’s third album “Los De Atrás Vienen Conmigo”, just a year after their sophomore album was released.  

Sometimes when artists don’t take their time producing and album, the results are atrocious… that’s not the case with “Los De Atrás Vienen Conmigo”. 

Calle 13 return crazier than ever, with more bizarre genre bending, loony sound concoctions and even more racy and blithe lyrics. 

Hints of reggaeton just pop up here and there, but overall, Calle 13 deliver a genuinely alternative album.  There are many surprises that may take a couple of seconds for you to readjust from the WTF?! shock phase.  Calle 13 work with new and unexpected rhythms that will make you want to just dance.
