In April of 1989, Jane's Addiction played a series of legendary shows at Los Angeles' historic John Anson Ford Theatre. Now in 2011, they return to this historic venue to play their ground-breaking classics and to launch their long awaited new album, The Great Escape Artist, in stores October 8th.These dates for Jane's Addiction – frontman Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins, along with Chris Chaney on bass—are a part of a one-of-a-kind series of two-night stands that will also take place in Chicago at the Metro (where they initially launched Nothing’s Shocking with two sold-out shows in 1988) and New York.
An irressistible force comes back to Hollywood
“In ’89 we created a unique atmosphere at John Anson Ford. Back then it became a community and a party. Stephen Perkins even played drums in the parking lot for everyone as they entered the venue,” says Navarro. “Now we are going back to play this special LA venue and intend on making these shows just as unique.”
The idea of big bands playing small rooms is always a special experience for the fans, but for Jane’s Addiction, their special engagements that have them partnering with Citi in September and October to launch their newest offering, The Great Escape Artist, will also take them back to re-play some of their early classic shows in legendary venues. On Monday, October 3 and Tuesday, October 4, the alternative rock pioneers will perform at Hollywood’s historic John Anson Ford Theatre.
As their official bio reads, Jane's Addiction made a mark when they entered the rock scene: Twenty-three years later, the LA Alternative Rock godfathers are still an “Irresistible Force,” like the band’s first single tittle from The Great Escape Artist. The album is breaking records on Billboard’s Alternative Radio Airplay Chart as it ascends into the Top 10, marking their fifth overall. States Billboard in its 9/17 issue, “The band first ranked in the top tier the week of Oct. 29, 1988, when “Jane Says” shot 24-9 on its way to a No. 6 peak. The group’s span of ranking in the top 10-22 years, 10 months and three weeks — is the longest in the chart’s history.” “Irresistible Force” continues to gather acclaim ahead of the album’s release.
The album also features “End To The Lies,” a pre-single teaser track which the band made available to their fans as a free download this past April. For their first new studio album by in eight years, Jane's Addiction joined forces with producer Rich Costey (Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Interpol), with TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek on the creative team. Sitek, best known for his production work on TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Foals, is writing, programming, and playing bass on the album. www.janesaddiction.com
