Maria Fatal

LA Rockeros were thrilled by a special one-night-only performances from María Fatal at the Conga Room. Not since ARKA Fest in 2007 did the band play live, and a packed house at the Conga Room was on hand for this special event.  They played all their classic hits, as well as a few selections from their new CD (which was supposed to come out in 2005, maybe now???).  The crowd went wild for this seminal band which was part of the formation of the LA scene in the 90’s...

Now, what’s up for their future?  While Gabo the drummer insisted that this was a one shot only, other bothers Ernesto and Fernando were excited by offers coming forth that might result in a series of Central American shows.  So it is hard to say whether this was a final note in history, or the start of something new for this very important band.

In other reunion news, Polos Opuestos will be returning for a show with Voz Elemental in April [check Al Borde events for details] And it is unfortunate to report, but D.F.’s Plastic Revolution have broken up.

Love Star (formerly Grito Mutual) will have their EP release party at Bordellos March 6.  And after years of waiting, Finde finally do a West Coast US tour along with Seis Pistos, and LA rockeros Fatima.  [For all the west cost dates, check out Al Borde events]

LA rockeros Jellmunekita plan a tour of Panama in June. And speaking of Panama, after a long absence, Los Rabanes have a new CD with planned dates in México and Central América, but no announced US dates yet. More Panama: Cage 9 have new tracks up on their website.

Rhode Island groove alterlatinos Santa Mamba have released a new CD, are working dates up and down the East Coast, and are beginning a national radio campaign for their new CD.

And word from LA that Son Locuaz has down-sized to a three piece (exit guitar player Paul).  But singer, rhythm guitar player German Briseño has assumed lead guitar role a well as lead vocals. And they sounded powerful opening for Monte Negro at Bordello recently.

Rumor has it that the musical core of Auto Pop will be backing Jermaine Zuvalo of La Theoria.   Now that is something of note, as Jermaine is one of the best song writers on the whole alternativo scene, so this is not a show to be missed. And watch for a new La Theoria CD in late 2010.

¿De Qué Sirve Querer?

Guatemala’s Malacates Trebol Shop will be re-locating to Los Angeles in April.  Watch for a national tour this summer.  We understand that Vinyl Soul and Ivannkie were guest music artists on the pilot for a new late night  variety show en español called “The Latino Show,” with host Raul Alberto. Let’s hope it get picked up.

Colombian groove rockers Superlitio are back with a new CD, a New York showcase at D’Antigua, and various performances at South By Southwest. Hopefully a national tour will follow.  After the release of their excellent new CD “Hogar,” Volovan will also be showcasing at SXSW. Will they plan to add other US dates? Find out soon.
