Amandititita releases sophomore album, “La Descarada”
If you’re not the blonde supermodel type or a corrupt politician, you should be in the clear from Amandititita’s musical wrath. The self-proclaimed queen of anarcumbia who caused plenty of controversy and scandal last year with the release of her self-titled album that openly criticized corrupt politicians and brought to light the darker side of the Mexican Republic, is at it again. In her recently released sophomore album, blonde model types and crude bosses take a brutal tongue lashing the way only this artist can give it to them.
From her first album to her latest release, La Descarada, Amandititita took a giant leap as far as production was concerned. For her first release, Amandititita took a truly “grassroots” approach by letting a stranger arrange the music for that album. But now with La Descarada, the Mexican songstress had the privilege of working with none other than her main squeeze, Ulises Lozano (keyboardist to Mexican alternative band, Kinky). “It’s true, the person who composed the music for my first album was someone I hired from a newspaper ad; Ulises did all of the music arranging this time around, only because I couldn’t find that other person!” she jokes.
As for her first album’s success, which was critically acclaimed throughout Mexico as well as the US, Amandititita feels that this second album is her best album yet. “The first one was like a prologue to La Descarada. I consider this one to be actually my first album. It’s completely different from my previous album even though my humor and personality are still there. But the production of the album was completely different than my first.” Aside from being produced by Ulises, another major difference between her first album and La Descarada is the collaboration of many Latin alternative favorites . Grupo Fantasma, Molotov’s Randy and Kinky’s Cesar, Omar and Gil were amongst the group of collaborators who according to Amandititita, gave her music a new dimension. “This album is richer in music and I think that’s due to the collaborations,” she states. “You can hear it in the music.”
“La Güera Televisa”, which talks about Amandititita's awareness that she will never be a blonde model type, is the first of the ten-track album. And although she states that the song was not inspired by one person in particular, Amandititita comments that the song was written to poke fun at the women who aspire to be Barbie doll types in order to move ahead in life. “I don’t know anyone like that, luckily!” she states. “It was just to make fun of people. I don’t think about whether or not my lyrics will offend people because I think my songs only affect racists and I don’t pay attention to ignorant people.”
The “queen of anarcumbia” kept it even more real by shooting clips for her next music video at New York’s Nacotheque party. Clips for “Paso de ti” were shot at the New York fiesta, which happened to be the last Nacotheque party for the ’09 calendar year. “The concept was very simple,” she states. “It was all about the party night life in Mexico and in New York. This video will not have any special cameos like the video for “La Güera Televisa” did where Silverio played the role of the devil. It’s a very simple concept.”
La Descarada can be found online, and with tracks such as “Cerebro de Caca”, “La Güera Televisa” and “Odio a mi jefe”, an “I hate my boss” anthem, Amandititita contributes to the music industry once more with what is quickly becoming a soundtrack to the real world.
