You will love “Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According To Kathy Griffin” and here’s why: she’ll make you laugh, she’ll make you cry, and she’ll make you laugh some more… even if you’re not in her core demographic (the gays, fag hags and gurls). For starters, it’s not your typical memoir. If you’re familiar with Kathy’s comedic style (she favors storytelling over one-liners), this book reads just like one of her “specials”. It’s smooth, snarky, totally hilarious, y ultimadamente irreverente. Si Kathy Griffin no tenía pelos en la lengua antes de escribir este libro, ahora menos… dice las cosas al chile y sin miedo de ofender a nadie, not even her family or the oh so high and mighty Oprah.
Who else would write as a preface an open letter to Oprah begging her to invite her to her show and feature her book in her official book club? And who else would begin her memoir asking if anyone has seen a picture of Britney’s peesh?! Only Kathy.Even though there’s not too much detail, you will get the skinny on how the show business works, its ups, its downs, pero sobre todo Griffin enfatiza el lado oscuro y macabro del medio del espectáculo.
She talks about her life, her pedophile deceased brother, her eating disorders, her struggle as an actress and comedienne, her (many) plastic surgeries, her less than stellar fuck buddies, her failed marriage with Matt, her father’s death, and she even manages to squeeze in a whole chapter about her “bangin’ bikini bod”.
“Official Book Club Selection” is a truly enjoyable read. If you can get your hands on the audiobook, no la pienses dos veces and just get it… it’s the best way to experience Kathy Griffin a todo lo que da, even if it’s your first time venturing into Kathy’s world.
If you can’t get enough of Kathy Griffin, her crazy antics, her obsession with all things celebrity, and her struggle to get out of the D-List, you can check out her albums “For Your Consideration” and “Suckin’ It For The Holidays”.
