“Material Girl” Arrives at Macy’s

It’s official. “Material Girl”, the recent business deal of pop icon Madonna and daughter Lourdes, has anchored its stay at 200 Macy’s locations worldwide. The pop icon enlisted the creative lead of her daughter “Lola” to create a fashion line that would attract teenage girls. The collection is inspired by the 1980’s era and celebrates Madonnna’s iconic fashion sense of that time.

Of her daughter’s unique fashion sense, Madonna has stated that she’s often surprised by Lourdes’ ensembles. "I always have two reactions when Lola comes into my room with an outfit on. One is, 'Oh my God she looks amazing, what incredible style,' and my second reaction is, 'She's dressed completely inappropriately for school.'" But both Madonna and Lourdes were careful to make sure that their collection was school-code friendly. The line offers a variation of jeans, shoes, camisoles, tops, floral dresses and skirts that can be mixed and matched to create various looks. Although the line was projected with teens Lourdes’ age, staple items such as the flannel, lace tops, and cropped leather jacket are older crowd-pleasing as well. Budgeted within a $12-$40 window, the line may also set easy with parents doing some back to school shopping, or for those looking to pinch their pennies and stretch their dollars.


Madonna and daughter sought actress Taylor Momsen of teen drama television show, “Gossip Girl”, to serve as the spokes model of the collection. Momsen appears in all “Material Girl” marketing ads sporting Madonna-esque looks circa “Like a Virgin”. The 2010 collection is available now at selected Macy’s locations and can be purchased online at macys.com.
