25th Annual Imagen Awards celebrates 25 years


Lost The Imagen Foundation has announced the nominees for the 25th Annual Imagen Awards, honoring positive portrayals of Latinos and Latino cultures in entertainment.

The 25th Annual Imagen (Spanish for "image") Awards will be presented at a luncheon on Sunday, August 15th, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. Categories include: Best Primetime Television Program or Movie-of-the-Week, Best Actor and Actress/Television, Best Supporting Actor and Actress /Television, Best Children's Programming, Best Documentary/Television, Best National Informational Program, Best Local Informational Program, Best On-Air Advertising, Best Feature Film, Best Actor and Actress /Feature Film, Best Director/Feature Film, Best Theatrical Short or Student Film and Best Internet Program.

The Imagen Foundation’s mission is to encourage and recognize the achievements of Latinos, as well as positive portrayals of Latinos, in all forms of media.

Amongst this year’s nominees are actresses Sofia Vergara, Modern Family (ABC), Selena Gomez, Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie (Disney Channel), Jon Seda, The Pacific (HBO), actors Gregory Cruz, Saving Grace (TNT), Benjamin Bratt, La Mission (5 Stick Films), Carlos Mencia, Our Family Wedding (Fox Searchlight) and directors Fernando Lebrija, Amar a Morir (Laguna Pictures), Peter Bratt, La Mission (5 Stick Films), Kenny Ortega, This Is It (Columbia Pictures).

The Foundation is a national organization dedicated to increasing Latino representation at all levels in the entertainment and communications industries by providing access, education, and resources.

The Imagen Awards program was established in 1985 based upon an idea by veteran television producer Norman Lear to encourage and recognize the positive portrayals of Latinos in the media. After becoming The Imagen Foundation, it expanded its programs and initiatives to further its mission to serve as a bridge between the Latino community and the entertainment industry.

For the last quarter of a century the organization has kept its promise to promote Latino participation in the Entertaining industry, providing access, education, and resources for those pursuing careers in entertainment.

The gala is backed by major sponsors, including The Nielsen Company, The Walt Disney Company, Disney/ABC Television Group, Fox Television Stations, The Lear Family Foundation, Latino Public Broadcasting and CBS.
